Rhode Island
Two things that work differently here
One state office, not a county coroner
Rhode Island has no county coroners. The Office of State Medical Examiners, part of the Department of Health, takes charge of deaths from homicide, suicide, accidents and undetermined causes in every city and town (RIDOH). The officers at the scene will contact it. When someone dies at home explains the order of events.
Crime scene cleaning can be reimbursed
Rhode Island's Crime Victim Compensation Program, run by the Office of the General Treasurer, lists crime scene cleaning among the costs it reimburses after a violent crime. The crime must be reported to police within 15 days, and the claim made within three years (treasury.ri.gov). Keep every receipt and invoice.

Questions
Short answers
Is bio hazard cleanup the same as crime scene cleanup?
A crime scene is one of several jobs that fall under biohazard cleanup. The same companies also clean after unattended deaths, suicides, injuries, hoarding with waste, and illness.
Who is on the other end of the phone?
An independent cleanup company that works in the Providence area. This site does not do cleanup itself.
Can I wait a few days before calling?
Yes, once the police have released the place. Odors and stains usually get harder to remove with time, so it is worth asking for an assessment soon, even if you are not ready to decide.
Do I have to be there?
Ask the company. Many families prefer not to be in the home while the work is done, and the company can tell you what access it needs.
When you are ready, one call is enough
You will speak with an independent biohazard cleanup company that works around Providence. Say what happened in your own words, ask what they would do and how they price it, then decide. Nothing is agreed until you say yes.
